BEAUTIFUL COLORS, BEAUTIFUL WORLD
October / November 2008

ARTWORK BY THREE STUDIO ARTISTS: LINDA TURLEY, ADAM WILSON AND KELLY STANBERRY

Three different approaches to abstract picture making were showcased in The Studio's October / November show, “Beautiful Colors, Beautiful World”. Linda Turley’s freely painted “sun” paintings contrast nicely with the relatively more formal and linear marker drawings of Adam Wilson. Kelly Stanberry’s intuitive abstracts fall somewhere in between. The show included humorous sculpture and drawings by Kelly.

Some of Linda’s paintings have been reconstructed into various geometrical forms, which were piled up around the gallery. Linda Turley has been painting her “Sun” paintings ever since she began coming to the Studio 11 years ago. She always starts with a yellow circle and then intuitively adds colors around the edges until the picture is a riot of sunrise colors. When asked what she is painting Linda usually answers emphatically: “Sun!”
The abstract paintings of Kelly Stanberry are the newest addition to her growing list of styles and mediums. The illustrated catalogue of characters she has created over the years is what Kelly is best known for. Her characters always have a full name and age attached to them. These delightful people are now starting to appear in her ceramic work as well.
Adam Wilson’s abstract marker drawings include intriguing titles like: “Choose To Live Alone The Rest Of Your Life Or Choose To Have A Family The Rest Of Your Life.” Adam’s artistic talent runs in his family, his father was one of Walt Disney’s original animators. Adam wants people to know that “What one cannot do with their hands, sometimes they can still do with their minds.”
