THE BEST OF THE ALLEN CASSIDY SHOW
July/August 2009

SOLO SHOW DISPLAYS DRAWINGS, PAINTINGS AND CERAMICS OF STUDIO ARTIST

For the months of July and August, the Cheri Blackerby Gallery showed drawings, paintings and sculptures created by Allen Cassidy, a long time Studio artist. In addition, there was a screening of short films made by Allen and other Studio artist’s films he has worked on.

Allen is a very prolific artist who comes to The Studio four days a week. When he first started coming here, he painted and made paper mache’ sculptures. Since then he has expanded into ceramics, theatre, video, even puppet making and performing.

Allen's show includes a series of ceramic “humanized” animals he has created in the last couple of years. Several of these sculptures are part of a musical group of animals. These sculptures are thickly textured and glazed with beautiful colors. They are very lively and fun.

Animals also figure prominently in Allen’s paintings. Buildings, cars, planes and flowers are also a recurring theme. His paintings are energetic and use every inch of the picture’s space. Yet they are boiled down to the essential. Allen’s colors read like a list of great ice cream flavor combinations. In other words, they are delicious!

Allen is often involved in the drama and video projects that happen at The Studio. He has produced several short films and worked on many other movies made by other artists.
