Artist Bio

Artist Dawn WentworthDawn Wentworth

Dawn Wentworth is a true visionary artist. Along with using traditional art mediums such as acrylic paints, mosaics and clay; Dawn is constantly appropriating whatever materials come into her orbit and looking for ways to integrate them into her work. From her hair sculptures to her explorations into texture using glue, kitty litter, and whatever found objects she can get her hands on, Dawn challenges us to expand our notions about what can be considered art material.

Often while creating her work Dawn uncovers “found figures”, which she encourages to arise from within whatever medium she is working with. These “found figures” take on a life of their own as she creates a context for their unique environments illustrated in her titles and accompanying narratives.

Dawn has been an active working artist at The Studio since 2004 and in addition to her solo work she is also involved in The Studio’s drama and video classes. Dawn's first video, “The Alien Painters” premiered at the Arcata Theatre Lounge in August 2011.
