The Studio and Cheri Blackerby Gallery are pleased to present FIELD, an exhibition featuring the abstract paintings of Eric Lee, Brian Price, and Ryan Stoltz.

Abstract art uses a visual language of form, color, and line. An abstract work is one without representation or visual references in the world. Like a picture that does not picture, an abstract work can be decorative, symbolic, spiritually expressive, or purely formal.

Eric Lee is a prolific painter with an outgoing personality who began attending the Studio in the fall of 2013. Eric is a sports enthusiast who enjoys baseball and football, as well as an athlete who performs in the Special Olympics for Swimming and Bowling. FIELD is the first exhibition featuring the work of this visionary artist. In his paintings, Eric Lee tempers painterly gestures with a neutral palette of ochres, taupes, blacks, and grays. The physical act of painting is palpable in the finished work; an application of active, sweeping brush strokes and transparent washes.

Brian Price was born in Marysville, California, and currently lives in Blue Lake. Brian started at the Studio in 2009. A versatile artist, Brian draws, paints, composes electronic music, and is an active participant in the Studioʼs drama and video classes. Brian Price layers energetic line work to create friction, texture, and movement within a larger cosmos of paint.

Ryan Stoltz has been an abstract painter and performance artist at the Studio for ten years. In his paintings, Ryan transforms fields of vibrant, candy colors into organic and biomorphic shapes. He has a wry sense of humor, and this often informs his performances and the titles he gives his paintings.
Ryan performs at many of the Studio's openings, including the December Arts Alive production, The Deep

Blue Pier, and also acts in videos made by fellow Studio artists.
