The Studio and Cheri Blackerby gallery invite you to explore “NEW LANDSCAPES”, an exhibition featuring

the work of four visionary artists, Gary Cheadle, Mike Hedlund, Pablo Rahner, and Jim Wilson, who explore

new perspectives of the tradition of landscape painting.

Warmed by the summer sun, or blanketed in a soft cotton snowfall, the quiet landscapes of Gary Cheadle

are punctuated by rustic cabins, but remain silent with the absence of the human figure. Cheadle’s detailed

colored pencil drawings delineate the trajectory of each drop of rain and illustrate individual blades of grass.

Mike Hedlund’s expressive landscape paintings blossom within the nostalgic, domestic boundaries of picket

fences and unbroken countryside, seascapes, and mountain vistas. Hedlund navigates the composition of

the landscape by constructing architectural planes with graphite and a ruler and paints within the geometric abstraction.

The surrealist acrylic paintings of Pablo Rahner are characterized by fantastic imagery, synthetic colors, and incongruous juxtapositions within the landscape. Rahner’s landscapes reflect the vivid imagery of dreams,

myth, and fantasy.

The expressionistic paintings of Jim Wilson exhibit a strong knowledge of local landscape, and translate

geographical landmarks into bold gestures and iconic symbols. Wilson liberates representational objects

from the traditional principles of scale, perspective, and proportion, creating an unique visual narrative.
