ANIMAL / HOUSE                                   January / February 2015

Allen Cassidy and Deanna Huse

ANIMAL / HOUSE represents an intersection in the artistic practice of Allen Cassidy and Deanna Huse, whose work has a primary focus on animals, both domestic and wild, including cats, dogs, celebrity chipmunks, turtles, and tigers. Monumental, richly-hued portraits of houses are presented with equal importance, liberating architecture from its history in painting, as merely the background.

Originally from Seattle, Washington, Deanna Huse has been living in Humboldt County since 1999. As an artist at The Studio, Deanna is a prolific painter. Her bright acrylic paintings have an iconic style that often feature animals, houses, travel trailers, desert landscapes, and portraits of her friends. Deanna’s bright and cheerful personality shines through in all of her artwork.

Allen Cassidy was born and raised in Crescent City and moved to Eureka in 2000. Allen's vivid paintings are populated with animals, figures, buildings, and vehicles, which exhibit a strong sense of color composition and dynamic design principles. In addition to painting and sculpture, Allen is an active participant in all of the classes offered at The Studio, including Drama, Music, and Video. ANIMAL / HOUSE will feature Allen’s newest video, “The Chipmunks Meet the Hamster of Happiness.”
